PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN NIGERIA

PHYSICAL EDUCATION E-CLASS COORDINATED BY MRS BLESSING TITILOYE  PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN NIGERIA There is no proper documentation of the origin of Physical Education in Nigeria before the coming of colonial masters in 1900. But like other primitive people, Nigerians have been engaging in some form of Physical Education in an informal fashion. Some of these activities include traditional wrestling, hunting, fishing. swimming (Argungu Fishing Festival), ayo game, moonlight play, social dances, and war dances. The idea of PT (Physical Training) came to Nigeria through the colonial masters when the control of the country was taken over by the British. Physical Training was then limited to training the body alone especially for the local police force, soldiers, and the natives that were drafted to the teachers training schools who were in turn saddled with the task of preparing their pupils for some games and athletics for the "Empire Day". The expansion of schools necess

MY STORY ON COMMUNITY BUILDING AND LEARNING SUSTAINABILITY DURING COVID-19 LOCKDOWN In the past three months, COVID-19 lockdown has changed just about everything in our lives especially the school system. All of us who are in the teaching profession have been figuring out how to engage our students who have been adjusting to learning from home. Come to think of it, even if everything has changed, there is something that has not changed- the overwhelming need for continuous learning of these students. As the saying goes, “If you are not a part of the solution, you are part of the problem”. The COVID-19 pandemic is one of those times when all hands must be on deck to ensure that the building of tomorrow’s leaders does not stop. And I perceive it keenly, each day, in my role as a secondary school teacher at Omole Senior Grammar School, Lagos, Nigeria to contribute my quota. I will like to share my experience and how I have been supporting my students and community during this peri
