PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASS

COORDINATED BY MRS BLESSING TITILOYE

          Week: Six
Class: SS3
Lesson Title: Simple Mechanics of Motion
Period: I-II
Duration: 80 Minutes
Learning Objectives: Students should be able to
                       i.            Principles of lever system
ii.            Gravity, work velocity, balance and angles
                    iii.            Application to game situation

Simple Mechanics of Motion

Mechanics is the area concerned with the motion of physical objects. Forces applied to objects result in displacement or changes of an object position relative to its environment.

Mechanics may be divided into three branches:

      1.     Statics: It deals with forces acting on and in a body at rest.

      2.     Kinematics: It describes the possible motion of a body or system of bodies

3.Kinetics: This attempt to explain or predict the motion that will occur in a given         situation

Principles of lever system

The lever is a simple machine that changes the magnitude and detection of the force applied to move an object. It minimizes the effort required to lift the object. A lever is a rigid bar that moves around a supporting point (pivot or fulcrum). The object to be lifted is placed on the bar.

Gravity: It is a universal force of attraction acting between all matter

Velocity is the speed at which something moves in one direction.

Balance: This is a situation in which different elements are equal or in correct proportion

Application of Mechanics to Game Situation

A game mechanics are the rules and procedures that guide the player and the game response to the player’s moves or actions.

      1.     It helps in reducing or minimizing the risk of injury.

      2.     It improved sport performances

      3.     It helps analysis and assessment of human movement during sport activities

      4.     It helps to describe motion or movement and how forces is created

      5.     It helps in describing how and why human body moves in the way it does

     6.     It helps to consider the interaction between the performer, equipment and                  environment

      7.     It improves muscular skill

      8.     It improves physiological capacities and psychological or cognitive abilities

      9.     It helps in the identification of optimal technique for enhancing sports performances

10.The analysis of body loading to determine the safest method for performing a       particular sport or exercise task

Assignment
